Images of next weeks white dwarf have confirmed the new 40k starter set StormClaw will contain Orks and Space Wolves.

The Space Wolves receive
1x Wolf Lord in power armour on 35mm based
5x Wolf Guard Terminators
10x Space wolves in power armour.

The Orks receive
1x War Boss
5x Ork Boys
10x Grots
3x Killa Klans

The model count is reduced from Dark Vengeance (46) and Black Reach (46) to 35 models. The big surprise is the models are not snap fit, they are all normal multi pose kits like the 3rd edition set was. Many collectors will be happy about this. The Character Models are not available out side of the set so there is still a reason for dedicated collectors to bag one of these sets. Along with the models the is a “full” copy of the rules and a campaign book.
The price tag is now confirmed at £75 or $125US/$195AU.

I’m fairy pleased with all this and will look forward to picking up the new small format rules.

New Space Wolf Wolf Lord Spotted

There is what looks to be a new named Space Wolf Wolf Lord Grom Dragongaze on the cover of next weeks White Dwarf. The other models on the cover do not give any indication this model is apart of a new Starter Set. Unless GW are going back to proving complex models in the starter sets.

New City Terrain Spotted

This is a section of a new plastic realm of battle game board Games Workshop are rumoured to be releasing. I’m quite excited by this. If there is a extension set like the existing realm of battle board it could be possible to lay it over the top of DIY game board as a city tile; and gradually build up to a full 6×4. Those with wives and children will know three £60 purchases, take a lot less explaining than a single £175 outlay on large lump of plastic. Of course I fully expect we are talking about a least £75 for the extensions and £200 for the full board, given Games Workshop recently pricing strategy.

White Dwarf 21 – More Orks Next Week

The end of the Ork release is not yet in sight. This weeks White Dwarf shows of the new Ork Codex along with and a painboy and an Ork Mek. The back insert indicate there are bigger Orks to come. I imagine this will be the Nobz in mega armour which have been shown in leaked pictures on other websites.

Games Workshop Dividends At All Time Low

Last week Games Workshop announced a dividend per share of only 20 pence. While at the same point last year the dividend was only 16 pence there was an interim payment of 24 pence in February 2013 and 18p in 2012, making the total dividend 58 pence per share in 2013. Given the share price at the time dividends were announced of 613 pence, the 20 pence dividend is only a 3.33% return per share compared to 8.1% last year.  It stands to reason the value of the stock should be taking a dive, however the share price has only improved since the 25% fall in January.

It appears having no CEO, closing stores in central locations, closing their major marketing even aka games day, releasing 40k two years early, delaying Warhammer and putting up prices on new products has not translated into higher profits.

Will acting CEO Thomas Henry Felix Kirby now change course?

  • Urgently appoint a new CEO
  • Open more stores in central locations to gain new customers
  • Relaunch games day
  • Refocus on beautiful affordable  models
  • Release a more balanced version of Warhammer
  • Lower entry level prices, rules, codex, starter sets and troops.
  • Drop the Hobbit and find a new franchise – such as Star Wars?

We will see.
