Golden Demon 40k Open Category

I may have the wrong category for these but I believe they were from the open competition. I was only able to photograph the Saturday entries this year. Hopefully GW will provide some good coverage of the finalist via their community site and White Dwarf.

Classic Ultrmarines and Tyranids at Warhammer World

This collection of modern and classics Ultramarines and Tyranids was displayed in a special exhibit at Warhammer World in March 2016.

I believe these models belong to Garfy one of the painters who blogs on tale of four painters. There is a post on his tyranid attack box set here. It’s very possible GW will release this set again in the future, with updated models. I’m sure it would be very popular if they did.

Ultramarines

The first ever Ultramarine Captian model

First company veterans

The Limited release Blood Angel Space Hulk terminators set converted in to Ultramarines

The first plastic space marine scouts. The sergeants had a better armour save than the scouts back in those days.

These are the first plastic Terminators GW made. They are very hard to paint well as the detail is very shallow. This is probably the finest paint job I have ever seen on these models.

Tyranids

This is a very reto Hive Fleet paint scheme. Comments welcomed if you know what it is called.

Broodlord accompanied by some old hormaguants and Tyrant Guard

Classic second edition style flying Hive Tyrant

The original plastic Geanstealer Hybrid models and metal ripper swarm

Tau Display

March 2016 was also the fist chance I had to photo the Tau vs Admech display at Warhammer World, which is still on display. If you haven’t had the chance to make it to Warhammer World I would strongly encourage you to do so. I try to make it there are least once a year.

Kill Team 40k Preview

For less than the cost of a Tau Stike Team and a Space Marine Tactical squad this set is absolutely fantastic value from the Warhammer store. Well it is when you consider it includes a Tau Stike Team, a Space Marine Tactical squad and a 40k the rules, along with the rules for playing Kill Team. For anyone who collects Space Marines and Tau this box is surly an auto purchase?

This product is actually a big step up for GW, or down depending on how you look at it. It’s possible the lowest entry level set for 40k that GW have released for years. I think we are back to 3rd edition for something comparable in terms of price. If you have a friend who wants to split a couple of sets down the middle, a single character model such as one of these fellows, is all you need to have a basic 500 point 40k army.

So although there are no new models to see here. This is a massive shift if tactics from Games Workshop bring the cost of getting going in 40k right down. I could see school kids looking at this as an invitation to get started.

Fort Pain, Tau, Warhammer World

An End to Fort Pain at Warhammer World

During the building works at Warhammer World, Fort Pain has been retired. It is currently unknown if the board is set to return. While being one of the few boards featured in Games Workshop publications it was not the most popular. While it looks great it is not the most balanced or level board. It is great for a game of siege the castle and one of the few ways many people can afford to play on the Forge World Fortress, but not good for a balanced game of 40k. Some general relish this prospect.

I was able to play a game on the board with Ben’s Space Wolves against Gareth Tau and another mystery army. Here are some pictures from my one experiences of Pain!
