Warhammer World

Warhammer World Closes it’s Doors

Warhammer World has quite literally closed it’s door and barred it with wood. If you check out the Warhammer World website you will see the Miniature Hall is now closed and it appears it will be for the rest of this year. If you still want to visit Warhammer world you can, but you might think it shut, given the big blue barricade installed around the entrance. The good news is the bar entrance is still open (and so is the bar), as is a temporary shop which has been installed in the smaller half of the gaming hall. Which obviously means less gaming tables. So why have GW retreated and fortified themselves in their HQ’s command bunker? It’s all part of a refurbishment of Warhammer World which includes a new Glass front entrance and enlarged retail space with dedicated shops for black library and forge world. There are some still some limited displays in place in the gaming hall, including the Space Wolves fortress monastery. Unfortunately some of the feature boards have had to be retired, due to the limited space, this includes both the infamous Fort Pain and forge world zone mortalis board. The good news is the ever popular Jimgam Bridge is still available for the taking or blowing up depending on you preference.

New logan Grimnar model Grimar

Logan Grimar gets the make over he deserves

It long overdue but the Great Wolf has finally been given the make over he deserves. Yes that right at long last we have a new Logan Grimar model and this time it’s made from plastic. What you might not be expecting is he comes bearing gold, sporting his big white beard, ridding of a slay pulled by two wolves (oh dear) he is just missing a big red coat of paint and you could start singing Christmas carols. I guess the count down to Christmas has begun. Given there live of snow maybe GW should have held off a couple of months and we could have renamed Space Wolves Christmas Marines, maybe it’s better they didn’t. One thing is for certain this will be top off somebodies Christmas list. Just not mine. Bjorne the Fell handed in plastic now that’s another matter.

Games Workshop Shares Rally After Kirby Pep Talk

Today GWs shares have rallied, after the poorest set of profit results for many years and to the continued trend of dwindling sales. We can only assume Tom Kirby has attracted investors with the news of a positive horizon. No threat of 3d printers talking over and no need to worry about future falling profits, even after axing 100s of sales staff across the globe, reducing store opening hours and continued falling sales. Usually a sign the medium term future does not look good.

For some reason I’m remembering the South Park episode. Where the dictator says “Guy’s it’s ok, don’t worry, you can trust me”.

Perhaps it was the news Tom has decided again to hire a CEO. Perhaps it’s the fact there is still enough cash in the bank that the new CEO will be able to make further changes. Dispute 4 million being spent on a new web store and a further 0.5m on severance pay. You have to wonder how long it will take for these measures to pay off. Investors may be wondering why when profits were falling the acting CEO decided to embark on such an expensive project.

The other possibility is that investors had seen some desperate measures from GW to prop up the balance sheet i.e. 7th edition and where expecting the end of year statement to be a repeat of the mid year statement, fortunately for the provider of the worlds most popular table top war game, it wasn’t. After a dividend payment which indicated GWs profit figures where going to be around 8m profits have been announced at 12m. Of course profit would have been 15m. If the web store had not been upgraded.

What ever the reason it does appear the market had responded positively to GWs end of year report. I’m still opting to pay off my mortgage rather than sink money in to GW.
