Sisters of Battle Sell Out Across the Globe

March 4, or rather March forth saw sisters of Battle fans buying models in droves. As a protest of what sisters of Battle fans feel has been years of neglect, hundred’s (unconfirmed) of Sisters of Battle players decided to take matters into their own hands and show GW just how many people want to see new sisters released. This all stared out as a simple idea by Antony aka BlackTalos a member of DakkaDakka…

“The idea here is to get most players who collect Adepta Sororitas armies to purchase a single model in order to show our support for GW, and entice them to update their Battle Sisters range.
The plan is very simple, and will simply work on the spread in Social media and gaming groups. ” 22/1/15

Collectors where given a simple and cheap suggestion as to what they should purchase

“On the 4th of March 2015, i would kindly ask that you purchase THIS MODEL. You may select an alternative, such as THIS or THIS. The most important thing is to try and do this as close as you can to a selected time: 8am PST 10am CST 11am EST for the US 4pm GMT in the UK 5pm CET for most of Europe Or the equivalent time in your time zone.”

In parallel to the idea the members of the Sisters of Battle facebook community where discussing a model buying drive and a national sisters of battle day to raise their profile on GW’s raider.

“From Kieran Frankenstein
“I think someone should make petition to save SOB or make a date where everyone you could get, goes out and buys a sisters model or unit every month or 2 or 3 so that we can save the sisters of battle. ” 1/2/15

From Jon on the Sister of Battle facebook page “Should we have a Sororitas day, where everyone orders a model from GW?” 1/2/15

A poll was ran to find out when Sisters of Battle Day should be. Once Mathew Leahy joined the two initiatives, the date was set. March 4th 2014 will forever be know as Sisters of Battle day.

Mathew Leahy 1/2/15
“There’s a thread on Dakka that outlines the plan. I’m planning on doing it.

I also proposed that players send select members of the GW design team a letter that has been sealed with an old fashioned wax seal, timed to arrive around the same date.

And so began spreading the word. Sites far are wide came out in support of the forgotten Sisters Players.

And of course the Sisters of Battle Facebook community

And there where more I’m sure.

There was one site which refused to take part. Response from Warseer “ideas from the sisters of Battle Facebook page can stay on Fackbook” thread closed.

But back to the result of this positive drive from a internet wargaming community known wide an wide for it’s ability to complain.

The result was, for a small window of time, GW sold out of Sisters of Battle models far and wide.

The UK, which acts as a warehouse for most of Europe sold out of 10 products. Four days later it is still trying to recover and it recasting 5 lines one of which, Sisters of Battle Superior with Bolter may never return.

“Hello

We are contacting you today regarding your order with Games Workshop. We apologise for any inconvenience, but our dispatch department has informed us that unfortunately the SUPERIOR WITH BOLTER are currently out of stock and we do not have an exact date of when this will return.
Would you like us to hold the order or remove the item and you will not be charged?
If you could reply back stating which action you would like us to take we will organise this for you as soon as possible.
Kind regards
Sophie
Games Workshop Customer Service”

So all in all I would say the Sisters really did have their Day.

One thing is left to be decided. Will this move by the Sisters of Battle community make the smallest bit of difference to GW release schedule for the Sisters of Battle. Unless GW comment, which they appear to have a policy against, we will never know.

If the Sisters of Battle don’t have many more years left at least the players tried to do something about it. If the Sisters do get new plastic models later this year the collectors can be happy they got hold of those last few models. With an estimated 2000 sisters collectors world wide, Metal Sisters of Battle truly will be a rare thing in years to come.

If you missed this it’s not to late to take part. GW reports monthly sales figures, so any orders placed on March will still point to Sisters of Battle day.

War Gaming Mats – Lava, Dessert and City’s

We recently became aware, of Deep-Cut Studios gaming mats. These mats frankly look awesome. Deepcut offer a range of gaming terrain mats ranging from desert, city, space (for X-Wing and gothic) games and finally their lava mat, pictured above. I do find it hard to imagine games workshop terrain placed upon the lava mat, but it looks so Cool, I’ve got to see some Grey Knights vs Demon games played out on these.

IMG_3345.PNG

Not only do these mats look the business, but they are also very affordable. More so than even the F.A.T. Mats. Available in both cloth and even lower cost PVC.

From Deap-cuts Website
“PVC mat:
– Made from high durability PVC
– Non textured gaming surface with high quality printed picture
– Resistant to scratch and tear as well as dirt stains
– Compatible with water based pens
– Shipping tubes can be used as easy storage
– The choice for a sturdy and cost friendly battlefield

Cloth mat:
– Made from lightweight synthetic cloth
– The paint are soaked into the material and will never scratch or fade off
– Can be machine washed or ironed with steam
– The choice for an ultra-portable battlefield”

The Deap cut city mats have a more grey concrete look than the FAT mats and are obviously less Grim Dark than Games Workshop’s. However when you consider they are over £150 less than a GW plastic board and almost half the price of a FAT mat, the compromise becomes very tempting.

I think I decided what I’d like for Easter!

Rouge Trader Space Wolves – Ben’s progress

Ben has sent in this photo of some of his Rouge Trader Space Wolves, which he has recently been working on.

“These are the last few metal Space Wolves I have left to paint. After this there is one blood claw and one grey hunter, which I have no idea what I’m going to do with. N’jal needs a few more hours of attention from my Paint Brush, but Bjorn and the Blood Claw are almost there. It feels good to finally have paint in all the original rogue trader characters, even though it’s taken almost 25 years to do it.”

People who suffer from “the pile” or “stack of models in the cupboard” syndrome will probably relate to this achievement. I for one am looking forward to seeing what these models look like when they are “finished”. I think they are already looking pretty good.

Battle Pictures – Emperor’s Children vs Ultramarines Legion

Some photos of the last battle I played with Ben; over Christmas. We played a city fight mission using the Mission Cards in White Dwarf. Ben used his Emperors Children and I used his Ultramarines Legion. The army lists where written using the Horus Heresy Space Marine legion army lists from book 1 betrayal.

IMG_2774.JPG

The forced were fairly even I took a centurion, 3 Dreadnoughts 2 rhinos, 2 predators, a storm eagle a squad of exo armoured terminators and a tactical squad. Ben took almost the same force, a centurion, an imperial knight, a drop pod, a mk1 land raider, a storm eagle a squad of veterans and a tactical squad.

Ben started the game by dropping his centurion and Verteran squad into my deployment zone. His aggressive tactics resulted in a gradual dwindling of my units.

IMG_2782.JPG

By the end of turn 6 my forces had been reduced to 4 legionnaires and a single Dreadnought, while Ben still had his knight, Storm Eagle and a full tactical squad. Fortunately for me the game ended at this point and due to completing more of my mission card I had secured the most victory points. While I won the game it felt more like a loss; given how little of my force where left.

Space Wolves at Golden Demon 2014

There was a lack of Grey Hunters and Other packs in Golden Demon, but no shortage of Space Wolf characters and Dreadnoughts. I guess this is very much in keeping with the new Space Wolf models Games Workshop have released this year.

Starting of the Heros of fendis is none other that the Great wolf himself. However this entry depicts Logan Grimnar is his time as a lowly Wolf Lord and not Champion of Fendress. This impressive entry also depicts converted Space Wolf Terminator Heros. I like to think these represent a younger Ulrik in Terminator armour and a heavy converted younger N’jal Storm Caller.

There was only one Space Wolf in the Single Miniature Category this year. So who ever painted this model can claim to have the best Space Wolf in category by default:)
