Battle Pictures – Emperor’s Children vs Ultramarines Legion

Some photos of the last battle I played with Ben; over Christmas. We played a city fight mission using the Mission Cards in White Dwarf. Ben used his Emperors Children and I used his Ultramarines Legion. The army lists where written using the Horus Heresy Space Marine legion army lists from book 1 betrayal.

The forced were fairly even I took a centurion, 3 Dreadnoughts 2 rhinos, 2 predators, a storm eagle a squad of exo armoured terminators and a tactical squad. Ben took almost the same force, a centurion, an imperial knight, a drop pod, a mk1 land raider, a storm eagle a squad of veterans and a tactical squad.

Ben started the game by dropping his centurion and Verteran squad into my deployment zone. His aggressive tactics resulted in a gradual dwindling of my units.

By the end of turn 6 my forces had been reduced to 4 legionnaires and a single Dreadnought, while Ben still had his knight, Storm Eagle and a full tactical squad. Fortunately for me the game ended at this point and due to completing more of my mission card I had secured the most victory points. While I won the game it felt more like a loss; given how little of my force where left.

Warhammer Fest 2014 – Forgeworld Mars Board Alpha Legion vs Cult Mechanicum

Is there life on Mars? In the Warhammer year 30,000 the answer is yes. Forge World put on this great display board at Warhammer Fest 2014. The Alpha Legion siege a Cult Mechanicas outpost and factory. The Colours used on these Alpha Legion are amazing. I understand the technique involves spraying thinned down washes of blue and green over silver.

Contemptor Dreadnoughts at Golden Demon 2014

There was no shortage of Contemptor Dreadnoughts in the 2014 Golden Demon competition. So let get right to these exquisite entires.

I would certainly be happy to have any of these as a centre piece to a Space Marine army. I find the Sons of Horus Dreadnought to be the most striking, while for me the Space Wolf Dreadnought holds the most interesting detail to peruse, however the Black Templar dreadnought features some outstanding conversion work and the the is the Blood Angels Dreadnought with much more subtle but still fine details. I’m glad I don’t have to judge Golden Demon, it would go on a lot later if I did.

Golden Demon 2014 – Horus Lucpel and Ferrus Manus

Here are the Horus Heresy entries in the Monstrous Creature category of Golden Demon 2014 at Warhammer Fest. Horus managed to get himself into just about every category in Golden Demon. Monstrous Creature makes the most sense to me. The shading on both of these models is absolutely beautiful. It’s a shame the photo of Horus doesn’t quite have good enough focus for a close up.

Ben’s Desk – Ruins and Emperor’s Children Legion

Ben had updated his blog again. This time he has been rebuilding ruins, what a Techmarine he is. He has also made some progress on his Emporer’s Children Legion.

Ben told me he pulled all his ruin’s into bits and then put them back together again, afterwards he realised he could have got the same result by just taking one of the pieces apart and attaching it to the others. But that wouldn’t have been as much fun.

You can find his blog here chaptermasters blog . IMG_2399.JPG
Ben’s Sisters of Battle getting an outing defending what’s left of a Basilica Administratum.

Games Workshops ruined buildings really are a lot of fun to put together. While the Shrine of The Aquila at 25 Goblin units is the best value for money in that it provide enough plastic to build a small solid ruin or an open ended long ruin, it doesn’t provided as many build options as the Basilica Administratum or Sanctum Imperialis. However to make a solid building you will need at lest two boxes of either of these.

Ben has painted his ruins using his Grey Primer over Black technique. He tells me this works just as well dry brushing Grey over black. The gold is dry brushed over the sprayed building and then wash with brown, which brown depends on what sort of end effect you want for the gold. Light shades provide a clean gold, while darker shades make suit a more scorched look. Ben recommend this grey over black technique for most building colours as it provided pre-shading. A technique Forge World’s army painters use. Getting the amount of Grey right is very important, washed of null oil can be use to tone the grey down if too much is used. After applying the grey Ben will dry brush other colours on top if he wants a blue, red or green result as seen on his bunkers or other buildings below.
