Golden Demon 2014 – 40k Single Miniature

Here are all of the 40k Single Miniature entries I was able to get pictures of. As I’ve already stated the standard was amazing this year.  While I had improved my own Golden Demon entry I could completely understand why it didn’t make the finals, maybe next year. There is a lot on the model I wasn’t happy with. I was glad non of the Krom Dragongaze mini’s won (Never enter your 1st idea). Most of the models below didn’t even make the finals.

Apart from it being a bit crowded getting to the cabinets the atmosphere was far nicer this year. In fact I think this was the most enjoyable and cheapest Golden Demon I can remember. There was no freebies for entering and only a certificate for making the finals this year. I guess that will keep out the rubbish next year.  It was noticeable some of the better painters had not entered this year although other’s had come from across Europe. Last years winner managed 3rd and I didn’t see Painting Buddha either, although the evidence of his DVDs and you tube videos was everywhere. Some of the old crowd that had turned up, looked a little disappointed the community hadn’t turned out in force. I think there were around 300 tickets remaining.  Living fairly locally, I’m not sure if the location was a big put off for many this year. The venue was far nicer, Here’s hoping for the the ICC next year (just wishful thinking, nothing more.)

Today’s Picture: Wargh Wednessday 1st of Orktober.

I bet you didn’t see that Wargh coming? Today we have a display of some black Orks at Warhammer World. If you follow this site you’ll already know the miniature hall is currently closed. Hopefully you’ll be able to visit Warhammer World next year when the works have been completed and the miniature hall has once again opened it’s doors. My quarterly l trip to Warhanmer World is a real treat.

I’m sure they will start charging and stop me taking photo’s one day. I do my best to only post pictures of the displays that are no longer available, so I don’t damage the visitor numbers. The photo’s I take are not even close to a substitute for visiting in person. Soaking up the miniatures in person is a experience that can’t be described with words alone.

New 40k Box Set Contents Confirmed – Space Wolves and Orks

Images of next weeks white dwarf have confirmed the new 40k starter set StormClaw will contain Orks and Space Wolves.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BHmY-jVS8Rk/U7qkjuMEsUI/AAAAAAAAAek/nPItyL6obSE/s1600/IMG_4784.jpg

The Space Wolves receive
1x Wolf Lord in power armour on 35mm based
5x Wolf Guard Terminators
10x Space wolves in power armour.

The Orks receive
1x War Boss
5x Ork Boys
10x Grots
3x Killa Klans

The model count is reduced from Dark Vengeance (46) and Black Reach (46) to 35 models. The big surprise is the models are not snap fit, they are all normal multi pose kits like the 3rd edition set was. Many collectors will be happy about this. The Character Models are not available out side of the set so there is still a reason for dedicated collectors to bag one of these sets. Along with the models the is a “full” copy of the rules and a campaign book.
The price tag is now confirmed at £75 or $125US/$195AU.

I’m fairy pleased with all this and will look forward to picking up the new small format rules.

White Dwarf 21 – More Orks Next Week

The end of the Ork release is not yet in sight. This weeks White Dwarf shows of the new Ork Codex along with and a painboy and an Ork Mek. The back insert indicate there are bigger Orks to come. I imagine this will be the Nobz in mega armour which have been shown in leaked pictures on other websites.

Ben’s Thoughts on the New Ork Models

Ben has been texting me about Orks this weekend. I wanted to share some of his thoughts.

“I have a small ork army, which I’ve been wanting to move to being a bit bigger. Spending £30 to keep playing with the same models has not convinced me I should progress the army. Instead I’ve spent £95 mostly on 2nd hand Tyranids. Only £20 went to GW the rest has gone to ebay sellers for more of the same. I’d love to be spending money on new GW kits but they are too expensive and not that nice to look at compaired to the old metal models. I’d sonnet get the old stomper over the new Morkanought. The new Shock attack gun it yuk, as is the head on the Ork firing it. If I did add a shock attack gun to my Ork army and I don’t think a shock attack gun is any where near the top of my list, I’d try to find and old finecast or metal model.

So that’s Ben’s take on the new Ork models. What is yours? Personally I like the artillery.

Go on, let me know which one you think looks better?.
