Project titan – Update 2 – Paint

I’ve fanaily got to put paint on my titan. I started with spraying a mix of two old Games Workshop green paints, Emeralde and Dark Angel.

I uses a second mix of mid green and light green, to add high lighting with the spray gun.

I’ve now gone back over the black parts and started to paint some of the details

I’m planing a game today so will be trying this out as it is before added a bit more paint and details.

Project Titan

I’ve been a bit quite lately so I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to; as it looks like I stand a good chance of getting Fido finished in the next week or so. Here are some pics of the build so far. This has been made from the DIY-Warhound-Titan-Plans-Template.pdf you can find on line, Although I have modified some parts of the design.

Head and Hull

I start by building the head and Vulcan mega bolter. reasoning these would make good terain if I didn’t get the project finished. These were made from card. I realised card would not be great for hanging PVC pise from so then constructed the hull and shoulder pads from card.

Feet

I made the foot from a core of Foam Board and then made the toes from card. I now regret this as the tows are a bit too week and don’t hold the model to the base very well.

Leg

I’ve now made the second foot and have started on the leg. The leg looked good at this stage 🙁

Legs

Once I’d got the second leg made I headed down the the hardware store and bought some pipe joint’s. I got 6 for £5. These pipe are bigger than the ones on the template but were all I could get. I’ve used milk bottle tops and screw caps on the ends of the pipes. I had to set the legs twice. Once the pipe had been added I found the foam board joint to the foot count take the weight at the diagonal angle. So I reversed the joint to have the legs in a run pose. I also found there wasn’t enough strength in the contact between the foam board and the plastic pips once the super glue had melted it. PVA glue might have worked? but I didn’t have time for letting the bits set one by one. I covered the ends of the foam board sections with card. This increase the contact with the plastic as it will warp to shape and held the legs well. The mid leg section is the top leg section from the template. I didn’t like the look of the middle template and wanted to give the titan a more dynamic pose. Given the increase size of the pipes I have used the non use of the middle template and the pose, the titan stands about 2″ over the Forge World model. Although by tilting the body I have got the guns and head to the right height. One on the sholder pads has dropped so I’ll need to reposition that.

Next post should contain some guns and some more detain on the model.

40K today – New Space Mairines

Nvia Stickmonkey on Warseer
These are all wip and no release timing is available. Codex SM is not underway, so these may be a splash release or could be a long way off.

New tactical squad. Hvy flamer. Mk 8 style
Edit: there are more mk 8 bits here than before, but there are still “beakies” too. Includes many options not released before in plastic, including a Hvy flamer, a backpack style (read devastator) missile launcher w flakk missile, slings on bolters, power weapon options. Basically think of all the blinged out options you get w a BA, SW, GK box and now apply it to tactical marines. Poses are all standing, but they aren’t as static.

New assault squad. New jump packs. New weapon options
Edit: retooling similar to tac squad. The jump packs are all new, but don’t get knickers in a twist cause they are the same style as current ones. They just look better cause the seam is not there. New cc options in the sprue include thss and lc. There is a few new options in here I can’t reveal.

New librarian mini sprue. Codex options included
Edit: this is where the librarian/chaplain kit I saw a long time ago went. Has a force sword or staff, has combi weapons, has pistols. Two heads. All in mini sprue. It’s 2 mini sprues. Only options from current codex not present are jump pack, bike, or TA. No info on where chaplain went.

New Techmarine mini sprue. Conversion Beamer.
Edit: very similar to current tech ax Techmarine. Layered body. Has tech ax, tech sword, plasma pistol, combi weapons, couple variants on servo arms, and conversion Beamer. 2 mini sprues.

Edit: on both these mini sprue characters the heads and weapons are compatible with existing line. But the arms/bodies are unique.

New scout box. New sculpts. Combined boxes. New options.
Edit: includes some new scout only weapons. Heads are less bulky. All codex options present in one box.

New flyer. Interceptor/bomber. Flat but boxy. Storm raven sized. No transport. No hover. Heavy assault cannon and ff missiles. Or bombs and servo drones in gun pods.
Edit: shares wing/engine aesthetics of storm raven, but fuselage is flatter. Wings not as bent. No thrusters in wingtips. Two tail options, one for each build.

New scout transport. Like Tauros (FW ig) but open wagon style. Halo warthog mashed w rhino. Pintle TL HB.
Edit: rumored rule only will allow pintle weapon when unit is embarked. Fast vehicle. 4 buggy style wheels. Rider models/bits compatible with new scout box. Roughly rhino sized. For Baja race fans think armored sandrail.

Cheers. Like I mentioned, these are likely a long way off, and I will fill in more later.

Additionally……
So far as I know these will be the only new ones, but it’s a dual kit. Add it to the storm talon and you have 3. I have it on good authority the storm raven will not become a codex release. And there is an awareness SM lack a transport flyer currently.

This lines up with what I got from games day and wrote about in http://chaptermasters.com/recap-games-day-uk-2012-words-from-the-studio/

New Fortifications

Robert Facepalmer on Faeit spotted these over the weekend on page 80 of the new Chaos Space Marine codex. You looking at the barricards with spikes on. These could be the new Space Marine barricades or just something made up for the Chaos Codex.

Ever wanted a slayer sword? Well now you can buy one. Price starting at $600!

Picture of the day – Work in progress Storm Eagle

You voted for it and here it is.

There were far more votes for for Ultramarine dispite a very good arguement being put forward for Spacewolves, but fear not Wolf Lord. I’ve asked Santa to bring me another one for Christmas.

I’ll post some more pics as work progresses on it.

I’m also working on a handful of transition marines at the moment
