Space Marine Devastators

Leaked Space Marine Devastator Pictures hit the Web

Devastator Squad

Hot on the heals of the Assault Squad, Pictures of the new Devastator Squads have been leaked on Bolter and Chainsword The new kits looks like a modem take on the old second edition devastators. It also appears to come with 2 extra Grav Canons. The pictures can be found here Devastators.
Assault Squad

Vanguard Veteran

It looks like we are in for a new bunch of Space Marines in next week’s White Dwarf. Leaked images of both Chapter upgrade sets for Ultramarines and Dark Angles have been posted along with a very dark photo of the new Assault Squad. To me the Assault Squad looks very reminiscent of the old Finecast Vanguard squad.

You can view the pictures here Space Marrine Chapter Upgrade kits

It’s interesting to see new Space Marine models so soon after there last release, two years ago. Picture of new kits don’t prove there will be a new codex. Given Games Workshop’s recent codex release rate I’ll be surprised if there isn’t one. This increase is codex frequency is both a blessing and a curse. While it’s good not to see the likes of Grey Knights neglected due to a lack of new models, it makes me reluctant to buy a codex unless it’s recently been published. I bought a Space Marine codex for a friend earlier this year, as he thought the last one was unjustified. I can only imagine how he will react if and when the next one hits. My own personal collection of up to date codex’s is getting smaller and smaller with each publication. I’m now out of date with Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Eldar, Space Wolves and Orks, yet I have purchased 2 codex in recent months. The good thing about this change in GW’s release policy is the rules in White Dwarf have meant that players can still use some of the new units even if they don’t think a codex purchase is justified. A much better alternative than codex piracy.

As for these new kits. I really like what GW have done with these frames. The fincast Chapter Shoulder pads were simply awfully small compared to the plastic ones of most of GW’s Space Marine kits. The new assault squad also looks to be a marked improvement and long overdue. Of course until we see the prices we won’t know if it will sell like hot cakes like, the new Tactical Squad did, or if will just continues to plug the gaps in players collections.

Imperial Fist Legion from Warhammer Fest

One of my favour parts of Warhammer Fest is meeting the Studio and White Dwarf staff, as well as seeing some of there own model collections. Unfortunately I can’t remember who’s army this is, but I do know they feature in the campaign of fire book.

imperial fistThis small Imperial Fist Legion army features a Cataphractii Terminator Squad and a single Tactical squad , mk3 armour shown above.

The breacher squad was the start of this Imperial Fist army, the other half of the tactical squad in MK5 power armour is show here, along with a Mkiv Venerable Dreadnought.

IMG_3360.JPG
A command squad comprising of the limited edition boarding marine and 2 older games workshop veteran models, leads this army. The contemptor dreadnought armed with twin assault cannons and missle luncher forms a great centre peace to the army.

This army shows what can be achieved on a small budget, if you take you time. Lots of people complain about Game Workshops prices, while having 100s of unpainted models in boxes. There is no component in this army that can’t be bought for under £35. If you chip away at ForgeWorlds lines, painting each item before buying the next, the hobby really isn’t that expensive. Of course the total cost of this army runs in to £100s, but it all started with a 5 man squad for under £30. While Spartan Assault tanks and Storm Eagles look fantastic, it was the little men in power armour that got me in to this hobby. After 20 years of collecting little blue men, it’s still those little highly detailed models that I enjoy seeing the most.

Rouge Trader Space Wolves – Ben’s progress

Ben has sent in this photo of some of his Rouge Trader Space Wolves, which he has recently been working on.

“These are the last few metal Space Wolves I have left to paint. After this there is one blood claw and one grey hunter, which I have no idea what I’m going to do with. N’jal needs a few more hours of attention from my Paint Brush, but Bjorn and the Blood Claw are almost there. It feels good to finally have paint in all the original rogue trader characters, even though it’s taken almost 25 years to do it.”

People who suffer from “the pile” or “stack of models in the cupboard” syndrome will probably relate to this achievement. I for one am looking forward to seeing what these models look like when they are “finished”. I think they are already looking pretty good.

Battle Pictures – Emperor’s Children vs Ultramarines Legion

Some photos of the last battle I played with Ben; over Christmas. We played a city fight mission using the Mission Cards in White Dwarf. Ben used his Emperors Children and I used his Ultramarines Legion. The army lists where written using the Horus Heresy Space Marine legion army lists from book 1 betrayal.

The forced were fairly even I took a centurion, 3 Dreadnoughts 2 rhinos, 2 predators, a storm eagle a squad of exo armoured terminators and a tactical squad. Ben took almost the same force, a centurion, an imperial knight, a drop pod, a mk1 land raider, a storm eagle a squad of veterans and a tactical squad.

Ben started the game by dropping his centurion and Verteran squad into my deployment zone. His aggressive tactics resulted in a gradual dwindling of my units.

By the end of turn 6 my forces had been reduced to 4 legionnaires and a single Dreadnought, while Ben still had his knight, Storm Eagle and a full tactical squad. Fortunately for me the game ended at this point and due to completing more of my mission card I had secured the most victory points. While I won the game it felt more like a loss; given how little of my force where left.

Space Wolves at Golden Demon 2014

There was a lack of Grey Hunters and Other packs in Golden Demon, but no shortage of Space Wolf characters and Dreadnoughts. I guess this is very much in keeping with the new Space Wolf models Games Workshop have released this year.

Starting of the Heros of fendis is none other that the Great wolf himself. However this entry depicts Logan Grimnar is his time as a lowly Wolf Lord and not Champion of Fendress. This impressive entry also depicts converted Space Wolf Terminator Heros. I like to think these represent a younger Ulrik in Terminator armour and a heavy converted younger N’jal Storm Caller.

There was only one Space Wolf in the Single Miniature Category this year. So who ever painted this model can claim to have the best Space Wolf in category by default:)
