More news on 40k 7th edition or even 6.5th edition.

More rumours have surfaced today on 7th edition. Bell of lost souls are reporting the release on the 24th May will be a full size 40k rule book with a full size price tag.
TalkTalk wargaming is reporting GW management have been briefed on 40k 6.5th edition. As 40k radio has previously “leaked” this book is an update to the 6th edition ruleset with the faqs, and a few other tweaks. Those hoping to see the end of Battle Brothers unit buffs may have to wait another couple of years.
I think the inclusion of other expansions and supplements can now be discounted. While the 40k rule sets have been removed from the Games Workshop web store, all the expansions and supplements are still available for purchase.

If all the above is true, one question remains. Will existing rule book owners have to buy a whole new book in order to get hold of these rules, or will there be a final 6th edition FAQ or White Dwarf to tie everything up?

Warhammer 40k 7th Edition Will be Released in May 2014

After days of no news there can be no more doubt. Warhammer 40k 6th edition is gone. The English version is no longer available from the Games Workshop website. The digital version has been removed completely.

So long 6th, May your allies system rot in pieces. Long live 7th edition may your chaotic under play tested rules reign like the Chaos Lord who wrote them.

Seventh Edition Release Date
The rumours all point towards May 24th but the rumour mongers disagree if this is a release date or pre-order date. The date given in advance for 6th edition was a pre-order date.

Price
No indication has been given if this is a full on £45 or more fluff monster or an entry encouraging price of £30. We can hardly discount £50 given the inflation rate at Games Workshop.

Starter Set Contents
Dark Vengence is still available and if the 5th to 6th edition transition is anything to go by, Dark Vengeance will be available until the 23rd of May. However other than auction sites, that will be you lot, no pun intended. So if you want a cheap expansion for your Dark Angels or Chaos forces, you better grab it while you can.
There are two very contradictory rumours running over the forces to be included in the starter set. The long standing rumour is we are looking at Blood Angels vs Orks. Given the Ork Codex is also rumoured to be the First of Seventh edition, followed by Blood Angels, this would fit well. A new rumour has surfaced today on Feite212 that Elder and Astro/Guard will be in the box. This would be very odd if it does turnout to be true. Games Workshop have always tried to support current releases, not revisit Codex from the past.

That’s the 7th edition rumours for today. I’m sure more will surface tomorrow.

Warhammer 40,000 Sixth Edition Rulebook has been withdrawn

20140428-223001.jpg

R.I.P. Sixth Edition
Bourn 23.9.12
Died 24.5.14
Aged 20 months.
Will be missed by
all those who loved it.

Retailers across the globe are reporting the core 6th edition Rulebook has been withdrawn from sale. Both US and Australian web stores list the book as no longer available.
If a 40k rule book’s success is measured by it’s longevity then 6th edition was an abject failure. Assuming the rumour published on bell of lost souls is correct. The 7th edition book will be up for preorder on the 24th May and should hit the shelves on the 31st of May. Sixth edition will therefore not have latest 2 years. Making it the shortest ever edition of 40k.
While this short shelf life may hint at a very bad rule set, the truth is far from it. Sixth edition was probably the best core rule set GW have produced. The problems came from expansions and codex releases. The more likely cause of this release is Games Workshop’s stock taking a huge fall earlier in 2014. GW need a cash cow and they need it now. Their best hope appears to be encouraging every player of their best selling system to buy a new copy of the rule book; two years earlier than expected.
Of course the question Games Workshop’s existing 40k customers may be asking is, will they or even do they need to buy it?

There has been a deathly silence on a date for Games Day, which had been announced by this point in 2013.

Persistent Warhammer 40,000 Seventh Edition Rumours

What? Warhammer 40k Seventh Edition Already?!?

20140421-114004.jpg

Chapter Masters is dedicated to pictures of well painted miniatures and Warhammer gaming news. Rumours are an area we now like to stay well clear off. This is because they can cause upset, even when untrue and result in the rathe of GW’s legal team. However something has to be said about the possible event of Warhammer seventh edition later this year. Sources on Bell of lost souls, fate212, 40K radio and other Internet sites are all drip feeding a steady pace of alleged rules from Warhammer 40,000 7th edition, rumoured to be launching later this year. Dates seem to range from May to somewhere in September. This may mean it will be as soon as Games Workshop is able to release it. I like to stay away from any specific rules within the rumours of seventh edition however within the multiple sources there have been some consistent themes of the changes that are about to take place. All sources seem to agree this will be a refinement of six edition rather than a big jump in rules. One common rumoured rule is the ability to consolidate into new close combats. Another is the addition of rules for superheavy being contained within the main rule set. With the release of the Imperial knights, this would make a lot of spence. Finally an end to the force organisation chart looks to be on the cards. At least two sources have now indicated will be moving back to the 40k second edition format just like warhammer fantasy. Use of percentages allocated to force organisation. For example up to 50% of your force being taken from an allied codex or at least 25% of your force being taken from troops.

Update 1/5/14 – 2 credible sources have reported the force org chart is not changing.

I think the thing I’m wondering most about 7th Edition is not what rules it will contain, but how the gaming community will re-act to a new book so soon after 6th edition. Will people be happy to drop another £50 (or even £60) for something with a shelf life of only 2 years. By the end of 5th edition I think most gamers were itching for some new rules. To be honest I don’t think I could claim to know the rules in 6th edition yet. If there is a new version in May(24/5/15), or even 23-7-14 I don’t think I ever will.

Titan Knights so what else?

Phantom Titan
I hope you will forgive the title of this post (and the picture) Don’t get me wrong if there are Titan Knights coming in March 2014, it’s a big deal. Given “the rat” says they are on the way, I’m inclined to believe they are. I also think Games Workshop are mad not to have release these about 4 years ago. Given they can be used in Imperial and Chaos armies, and as allies and in Apocalypse. If they look as good as the Eldar Wraith Knight, they are going to sell like hot coffee. If they look anything like The Lord of Skulls they will sell like Dreadfleet.
But back to the title so what else is going to be released in March? Am I the only person who thinks one plastic Knight kit even if it is going to cost as much as the other super heavies is a bit thin for a release window? In the Apocalypse release window we had 2 super heavy kits, 4 Space Marine Captains and a table’s worth of fortifications. I can’t help but wonder what else they have in store for us this time. Could there be another uber hyper heavy on the way? If so what army is it for? The only armies that don’t have a really big plastic kit are, Space Marines (but they can use the Knight) Sisters of Battle or what ever their name is (ditto), Tau (rip tide is not far of this size), Tyranids (didn’t someone say a new big bug would be released?) and Dark Eldar (a Dark Knight could be cool). Of the above I would think the Tyranids stand the best chance, I’d love to see a small plastic Bio Titan or Norn Queen. However I think a separate Chaos knight kit which uses an alternative sprue to maximise for the Chaos components would maximise the return on GWs design investment and is therefore even more likely (darn it Chaos why do you sell so well).
If GW do put out some more terrain might we finally see battle fields not covered in Imperial eagles and skulls. I get a few visitors to Chaptermasters each month looking for Eldar terrain.

So is March the month of the Titan Knight or the month of Titan Knights? Given the tightening of GW leaks I guess it will be at least two more weeks before we find out.
