And so Warhammer Fest begins

The big Forge World release is an even more heavily armoured Porphyrion.

But probably even bigger than that  the first painted mastodon has been spotted. The Sons of Horus roll out.

Leman Russ looks to be almost ready. It appears it’s just the base left to do. I wonder if there might be a couple of wolves on it.

The Rhico arena floor plan, it’s a great venue for Warhammer Fest. Really relaxed and full of natural light.

And the most popular area….

The queue for Forge World Goodies. They call it Warhammer Fest, but we know it as ForgeHammer Fest.
And here is ForgeWorlds new bird

More pictures are available at battlebunnies. They have been posting great content all day.
ChapterMasters will be picking up coverage of Golden Demon tomorrow.

The Wolf Time

The new Space Wolves release has certainly raised a few eyebrows, to say the least.

There are only 3 completely new sets in this release.

  • Ulrik the Slayer
  • Iron Priest
  • Space Wolves Wulfen

In addition to the new models is the Curse of the Wulfen book.

There has also been a lot of sets re-boxed and as CEO Kevin Rowntree had indicated a new lower price point for Space Wolves with the introduction of the Wolf Guard set at 65% of the price of a Space Wolf Pack for half the amount of models.
There is also a new Start collecting Space wolf set which is the same price as other new start collecting sets. The set contains a Wolf Pack a Thunder Wolf Cavely along with a Space Marine Commander. This set is priced lower than the cost of a pack and cavaly, making it a very cost effective way to start or expand a Space Wolves army. The remaining commander can easerly be used as a wolf guard with the spare components from the wolf pack set.

While 13th Company space Wolves are not new to the 40k Universe. The 13th company had a metal set released in the days of 40k 3rd edition and a plastic hybrid Chaos Soace Wolf set during 4th and 5th.

It’s the conflict between the Space Wolves and other Space Marine Chapters that make this releaese  very interesting. Games Workshop have previously refused to advance to 40k time line, so alienating the Space Wolves chapter in this way is not only a big change to the 40k status quo, it’s also the beginjng of the end of the 40k universes. This has lead a numbe of doom seerers predicting this is End Times for 40k….

I’m not so sure this is the end though. The grim dark future has always been a universe on the edge of collapse. If anything this just expanded the possibilities in that players can play pre and post 13th Company return time periods. Which is surly a good thing?

Warhammer Fest and Golden Demon to return in 2016

News broke at the Horus Herersy Weekend that Warhammer Fest will take place in May of 2016. It will be again be held at the Rhico arena in Coventry.

Golden Demon will be held at Warhammer Fest in place of the Warhammer World mini competitions.
The 1st pictures of the tickets have appeared on volomir.blogspot.co.uk.

This can only be good news for Golden Demon fans who want to see all the entries, but don’t want to make 12 separate trips to Warhammer World in order to do so.

I know that the Warhammer Fest format wasn’t a hit with everyone, but I enjoyed it and will certainly go to get pictures of all the entires.

So if you want to see this years best painted Citidel and Forge World models, mark the 14th and 15th of May out in your dairy.

Paint for the paint God.

Warhammer World September 2015 Mystery

Warhammer World will be shutting for almost a week in September from the 24th to 28th. The mind boggles at what event could take so long? September was traditionally the home of GamesDay. Clearly at this point it’s too late to sell tickets to an event of that sort of magnitude. So the question remains what could the guys at Warhammer World be up to for almost a week? They are also advertising for model makers and painters maybe this is a big clue. Will we be seeing an expansion of the exhibition displays for the rumoured Horus Hersy board game? Or are we looking at a more dramatic remodelling to the centre? Maybe they will finally make the new entrance hall worth while. I’m afraid the only facts I know is that the Forge World displays and artwork prints which were visible from the gaming hall are now locked behind shutters, being only visible to those who have paid for entrance to the exhibition. This does mean the exhibition ends in the shop so something in the world has been put to rights. So there are now defiantly  more painted models on display in your local Gamesworkshop than at Warhammer World, unless you pay for the exhibition.

Over and out

Jon

We have learnt this is an internal Games Workshop event which requires all tables to be removed. Obviously it’s not an internal games day.

Plastic Mk4 Space Marines are not from Forge World

Unless you have been cutoff from the Internet for the last few weeks you have probably gathered Games Workshop have now got production of Mk4 plastic Space Marines underway. This isn’t a great shock, they have had them for years, the bits have just been few and far between and split over a few different boxes of space marines. These new models have clued a bit of upset on the forums, as those who have shelled out for Forge World marines at £25+ per 5 aren’t thrilled at their purchases possibly being devalued. Well on closer inspection (see below) I think it’s clear that although based on Forge World’s design for Mk4 armour (which is based on Citadel’s original design, still available from the GW webstore Armour through the ages, these models are not a carbon copy of the Forge World designs. These new plastic Mk4s look closure to the current tactical marines with some tweeting to appear more like Mk4 armour. Due to which I think the FW designs will hold their value, and possible even increase if Forge World withdraw them all together.

So let’s all keep it frosty and remember that we willing paid the money for Forge World’s highly detailed resin Mk4 models. Disagree? Please do comment. Jon
